We finally manage to make a trip to the Esplanade National Library when it was still barely open to take advantage of Arty's Premium Membership - it's $20 a year to borrow 4 DVDs at any one time, which he's a much bigger fan of than me, and I usually just leech off his membership anyway. Then when we were about to check out the loans (3 Akira Kurosawa films and A Streetcar Named Desire feat. the magnificent Marlon Brando), we realised that his membership has expired.
And since we rarely have time to visit the library anyway, we just though, ah what the heck, forget it, lets just dump the stuff, save $20 and get out of there.
As he was walking back to place the stuff back, something on the "Just Returned" display counter caught my eye.
Best of Musikladen Live: Blondie (1978)
Wow!! Imagine finding that in the crusty old National Library music DVD collection! Amidst the "Best of Classical Music", "Four Tenors" and "Best of Flutists"!!
Well you can guess what happened next. Arty had to run to retrieve the 3 Akira Kurosawas (sorry Marlon, I'll get you the next time round!), I had to run to buy the cashcard to pay for the premium membership (cos, as the guy at the counter tells me "we don't deal with cash in the library!" - like cash is a dirty word), he had to run to test the DVD and then we both ran to check out the items.
As we were running I did recall yelling to Arty "Well the last thing I need is another ****ing card in my wallet!" much to the annoyance of the librarians.
***
OK so the DVD was really badly shot - heads cut off, quick cuts that make me dizzy, closeups that make orifices on faces fill up like 50% of the screen, lousy text and fonts...but, hey, it's a really rare performance by Blondie! It features tracks from "Blondie" and "Plastic Letters" (so none of the wonderful Atomic, Rapture or Heart of Glass here).
Track listing below:
X Offender
Little Girl Lies
Look Good In Blue
Man Overboard
In The Flesh
I'm On E
Love At The Pier
I Didn't Have The Nerve To Say No
Bermuda Triangle Blues (Flight 45)
Kidnapper
Youth Nabbed As Sniper
Now I've got to track down the VH1 special on Blondie and Blondie: Live in New York. Amazon beckons but I'm feeling so broke.

Need to keep testing my blog. Not working as I want it to yet. Thx for the theme. Maybe this will get mine to look better..
