I feel the plight of commuters in Singapore since I suffer the same fate myself. So here's a dedication to all the silent sufferers - my version of Lady Gaga's "Alejandro" - "No Ang Mo Kio"

I know that we are young.
And I know you may love me.
But I just can't be with you like this anymore.
Alejandro.

She's got no fare
In her farecard
And she can't take the bus
Can't take the bus

It costs too much
to travel to you
With the new fare system, she
can't get to you

You know that I love you boy.
Hot like belacan, rejoice.
At this point I gotta choose,
no money to lose

Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Alejandro.
I can't afford to travel down
To Ang Mo Kio

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch.
Just ride a bicycle and hush
I can only go
I can only go - Bukit Batok

No Ang Mo Kio,
No Ang Mo Kio,
Only Bukit Batok
Only Bukit Batok (2x)

(Make the bus stop. Please. I need to transfer. Ang Mo Kio. Please let me go.)

She is not broke
She's just being thrifty
With the pay freeze still intact, still intact
and all those people
let go before her
Now she's gonna ride a bike, gonna take a hike

You know that I love you boy.
Hot like belacan, rejoice.
At this point I gotta choose,
no money to lose

Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Alejandro.
I can't afford to travel down
To Ang Mo Kio

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch.
Just ride a bicycle and hush
I can only go
I can only go - Bukit Batok

No Ang Mo Kio,
No Ang Mo Kio,
Only Bukit Batok
Only Bukit Batok (2x)

Don't call my name.
Don't call my name, Alejandro.
I can't afford to travel down
To Ang Mo Kio

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch.
Just ride a bicycle and hush
I can only go
I can only go - Bukit Batok

No Ang Mo Kio,
No Ang Mo Kio,
Only Bukit Batok
Only Bukit Batok (2x)

Don't bother me.
Don't bother me. Alejandro.
I can't afford to travel down
To Ang Mo Kio

Don't wanna kiss, don't wanna touch.
Just ride a bicycle and hush
I can only go
I can only go - Bukit Batok

No Ang Mo Kio,
No Ang Mo Kio,
Only Bukit Batok
Only Bukit Batok (2x)

No Ang Mo Kio.

With so many distractions online, I logged in to Blogger only to ensure that my blog is properly migrated. I also have friends who say they prefer to read blogs than to go into Facebook or Twitter and be constantly bombarded by irrelevant updates. Guess I should try and keep this blog alive no matter what :)

Long and big projects tend to make one put off or completely sacrifice other things in life. Now that it's over, it's time to rethink priorities.
To spend more time with my family whom I have neglected as I spend weekends and nights working.
To be with friends whom I have to reject their offers to meet up, made appointments and was late for, have tried to catch up with but was abandoned as I was called off for work.
To read books that enriches the soul, stimulate the mind and stir up emotions which I have bought and placed aside, hoping to read snatches of them while waiting for work related emails to load.
To sleep and dream more instead of waking up intermittently at night fretting about neverending work and deadlines.
To play more and find the escape into an alternate reality.
To exercise more so that my earthly body finds a purpose in physical activity instead of carrying the heavy loads at work, running from meeting to meeting and straining to stay alert later and later trying to put in more and more.
To enjoy the epicurean pleasures of fine wine and gourmet instead of fast food, instant noodles and Red Bull to sustain energy to get me through a work day with minimal rest.
To pet the stray cats that nuzzle me for affection when I get home past midnight but I cannot give any more than a perfunctory pat on the head.
To seek personal and spiritual growth instead of worrying about the petty jealousies mortals and their pinhole perspectives of the world.
To write more of what I want to preserve my sanity and flex the writing muscle before it wastes away on the meaningless drivel.
It's time to live a little!

Killer Crocs!

Witnessed a morbid end to a Crocs sandal at Suntec City - half the head was swallowed by the escalator! I didn't see any body part attached to it so I supposed the wearer (an adult, from the size of the sandal) got away unscathed. I recall this kind of accident happening to a little girl before and she lost her toe. Crocs are not named because of how they can chew up their owners' body parts I hope...

Crocs fans, be warned - escalators are not your friends, and can chew up your Crocs!

The mysterious grape...

So many sad stories of dysfunctional genetics these days - a two headed horse, a two headed babies etc. Imagine my surprise when having grapes after dinner when I came across this abnormal grape.

It looks more like a tomato or some kind of melon!

Not to trivialise the power of genetics - which was my favourite subject in Bio - but how much of these are due to natural causes or man made? If we are screwing our own biological blueprint, we are not just killing ourselves as a species but possibly the entire world as well. Of course if we suddenly stumble upon something that makes us more viable than ever before, then all's well. Or is it? If we create a superior race, will they worship us or enslave us? Would the world be a better place? As HG Wells so poignently stated "In the country of the blind, the one-eyed man is king." If this grape does not have any advantages over its brethren (which are all sweet, juicy and seedless), then it is just a freak of nature. If it became more powerful, then it will be king of the vine and will propagate more of its kind.

To answer the burning question - no, I did not eat this grape. Purely out of respect.

Resurrecting the Blog
Unbelievable how quickly time flies! It's been almost 8 months since I last blogged. Facebook and Twitter have taken up most of the time I spend on online communications. I wish I can integrate everything to my blog, such as videos and photos that I post, comments on other people's posts etc. Sure, people on FB can see what I blog but that shows what Blogger has is kind of lacking. The only advantage is that blogging allows for more well formed articles substantiated by pictures. It does feel like a lot more work blogging though, after being used to the conveniences of FB and Twitter. Anway I managed to integrate Twitter to this blog just today - see the Twit window on the right? Now if only my photos on FB can post themselves on my blog - I haven't found out a way to do it yet :(.

Anyway let's hope my persistence carry me through - the writer aches to write but there are many aches that plague the writer.

How adorable can your dark side get? I totally fell in love with this adorable pendent from Swarovski and succumbed...naughty girl!!

Since red is supposed to be my lucky colour next year and I don't think this is any worse than the Gothic items that I wear, I don't think this will cause my Neutral Good alignment to slip. Who doesn't have a dark side?

Love Amplified? Love Exemplified!
After the Love Amplified concert, this song from the Dim Sum Dollies refuses to leave my head.

Pam Oei is phenomenal with the very "minah" way of rapping! I will definitely try and catch the Dim Sum Dollies the next time they play. "I do my job proudly... uh uh..."
Hossan Leong was hilarious especially with the bit about the mannerisms of flight stewardesses from various airlines. What split my sides was his impression of SIA girls in an emergency going "my Prada bag! my Gucci bag! my LV bag!"

Otherwise the LoveAmp concert was a little blah. Predictably I totally did NOT get the modern dance segment. Hady's singing was ok but had to spoil it all by making an insensitive joke about HIV (during an AIDS awareness concert! Hello! wake up your idea!). The punchline was unfunnily "If you get HIV, you die LAH!". The shocked silence from the crowd plus some heckling (me being one of them with "LAME!", "Bring back Taufik!" and "Goodbye! Goodnight! Get lost!") said it all.

Sun Yanzi sounded breathless singing "live" and wore a terribly unflattering top that made her look lost in blue. Her fans made some very cool LED lighted signage - I must learn how to do that in case Faye Wong decides to throw a concert again one day.

But having the concert to spread awareness was a good idea and lots of fun - just keep the local comedians coming and keep the bad jokes away!

Pictures taken by my new everything-proof Olympus SW1030!

Hady looking as clueless as he acts, Yanzi in a regrettable top. Dim Sum Dollies are delicious! :)

Dancers of whom there were too many and had overpowered the performances they were accompaniments to.
