The Return of the King Extended Edition - Lord of the DVDs

Just sat my butt down for almost 4 hours worth of The Return of the King Extended Edition...wooh! 50 minutes worth of additional scenes! Well, I do agree that some of the deleted scenes should be cut, but I remember that I felt the theaterical edition felt somewhat rushed and had many gaps...now I know how these gaps were meant to be filled. Yes, I know one cannot and should not show a 4 hour long movie in the cinemas but...can't they make exceptions for something that comes only once in a lifetime like Lord of the Rings?! Will definitely catch the EE when it hits the cinema again! Why? Some spectacles can only be experienced to the fullest on the big screen, dim lights and a kickass ear-blasting audio system. All I can say is...Get the ROTK EE DVD! It's only $70 for the third installment of THE most spectacular movie trilogy of all time! (other trilogies worth getting include Godfather, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Alien Quadrilogy (Trilogy minus Alien Resurrection which I don't really fancy)...

Here's more on my take on the EE...spoilers ahead, so if you want to experience it yourself, don't read anymore!

*SPOILERS AHEAD!*

*AVERT YOUR EYES!*

*DON'T LOOK DOWN!*

Scenes they should have left in:
1) Karl Urban (Eomer) crying over Eowyn - Award-winning performance by Karl...gosh his anguish was painful and heart-rending to watch...
2) Frodo and Sam blending in with Mordor orcs - how can they leave this out? It made their passage into Mordor much more difficult and convincing...we are reminded they had to make their way past 10,000 orcs! Their disguise cannot possibly get them past those scum!
3) Aragorn striking a bargain with the Undead - They are not easily bought by Aragorn waving Anduril around, y'know...the man's gotta shed some tears to move the green Undeads.
4) Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli waylaying the Corsairs - How did they get those ships? Not just by saying please but by slaying one of them "accidentally" (it's ok Legolas, we still love you!)
5) Aragorn vs the Eye - Even heroes have downtime. Aragorn's resolve flinched when talking to Sauron's Eye via the Palantir.
6) The (ugly) Mouth of Sauron - Gosh don't they use toothpaste in Morder?! Aragorn shows he's no pushover when "negotiating" with the Mouth of Sauron (the envoy of Mordor) who has horrendous teeth.
7) Nazgul King vs Gandalf - Shows that Gandalf isn't as all-powerful as we thought. The frightening Witch King of Angmar shatters Gandalf's staff and makes the cute Shadowfax rear on its haunches. And the absolutely beautiful shot of the Witch King raising his burning sword...wooh...scary staff, er, stuff.

Scenes I'm glad they left out
1) Houses of Healing - OK most purists will scoff at this but...hey I don't really think the sweet-mellow-loveydovey scenes + musical montage between Faramir and Eowyn are necessary, right.

Hmm looks like more good stuff than bad stuff eh? Makes me want to watch the entire trilogy's Extended Editions again! 11 hour marathon, anyone?
