Went to see Beautiful Boxer yesterday at Tampines and the cinema is almost completely empty with less than a dozen people in it! Which is a pity cos the show is pretty good. It's the true story of a transvestite kickboxing champ, Parinya Charoenphol (Nong Toom), who entered kickboxing matches to earn money for her family and also to save up for the operation. It's slightly artistic, philosophical and has got kickass muay thai moves...fabulous. Deeper than Ong Bak (which is just a regular action flick with Muay Thai) and more touching as well. Directed by the renowned Ekachai Uekrongtham, Beautiful Boxer is a story of courage of being who you want to be (and did I mention some KICKASS muay thai moves?)
