The last two books of R. A. Salvatore's Icewind Dale Trilogy, Streams of Silver and The Halfling's Gem are simply unputdownable (<-- yes I know, any English Language teacher will cringe at this) and are much better than the rather predictable and cliche The Crystal Shard. Salvatore's simple style of writing and straightforward narration (none of your fancy literary-award-worthy prose here) may read rather blandly at first, but becomes less of a distraction during the action-driven moments when you simply do not want to waste a second more pondering the naunces of literary techniques. Characters like Drizzt and Wulfgar seem to leap straight from the pages into your imagination.
