The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand
Although it was set in the 1920s, much of the issues still hold true today -- the idealist versus the objectivist, the way people climb up the ladder of career success and the intolerance for the unconventional. Ayn has an amazing gift for describing people, their subtle naunces, body language and the hypocrisy of facial expressions. So far, it seems to be a must read for idealists and artists proud of their craft, but it's a pretty thick volume, so I'll probably need more time with it before making a final judgment, also an underlying theme of the book.
