True to the ideals of this site, I will be occasionally posting my recent Distractions...
Books: Midnight Express by Billy Hayes and William Hoffer
- Why: Small enough to carry around compared to Icewind Dale (below) since I spend over an hour commuting to and from work anyway, and I saw the movie (directed by Alan Parker and screenplay written by Oliver Stone) a long time back and it left an indelible impression. But heard that this true-life account was somewhat embellished by the author Billy Hayes, who suffered in a brutal Turkish because he was caught smuggling hashish.
Icewind Dale Trilogy by RA Salvatore
- Why: The Forgotten Realms spawned so many Role-playing Games, so it's good to find out more about the legends and characters in this fantasy world. Despite its hefty 2 kg bulk, Icewind Dale is easy to read. Unfortunately I can't carry it around so it'll probably take me a while to finish it.
Have also recently completed Mario Puzo's Omerta. It's a disappointment if you're hoping for something like The Godfather. No wonder the Word Shop was selling it for a measly $7.
