To Blog or Not
All this heat on blogging is really worrisome. Instead of being a channel for one to express oneself by writing, personal blogs are now frowned upon, monitored by the state and employers, and may even be incriminating to oneself - you can land up in prison, get fired or get into a really serious situation because of some innocuous remark or what you think is harmless self expression. Corporate blogs from companies, filtered and cleaned by company spokesperson are all the rage - now it's a "marketing tool". CEOs, influential people, corporations are encouraged to blog but individuals are not. So much for freedom of speech for the common man/woman.
Looking at the origins of the hits that I get on my blog also worries me - not that I wrote anything deliberately criminal but sometimes saying anything is just saying too much - I just don't like the idea of someone monitoring and waiting to catch me on a bad day then ruining my life because I mouthed off something I shouldn't. And I pity the poor fellow hired for this job - must be really dull reading all bloggers' pompous, self indulgent and mundane entries. If you are reading this, well, sorry to bore you - but it's your job and you choose what you do.
Much as I enjoyed blogging for the last three years, this might be the end for me.
