USB flash drives troubleshooting!
Geek points +10!
I've been struggling to get my PC to detect a new thumbdrive that I've got and make it visible in "My Computer". But today I found a solution. Seems like there's a conflict with the drive letter that Win XP assigns to it with a network drive sharing the same letter. So the solution is to manually and forcibly assign an unused drive letter to that thumbdrive.
There's a nifty move for this so memorise it well!
Plug in the undetected flash drive (stop moaning abt it being undetected and stop pulling it out and pushing it back in ad nauseum, you perv!), then Start > Run > "compmgmt.msc" > goto "Disk Management" > assign an unused drive letter to it.
Then turn yourself three times and say "Abacadabra", and voila, your PC will always remember and recognise your thumbdrive!
Now you can go and impress your colleagues and friends with this nifty geek move when they start blaming the USB flash drives!
