Geek Week(end)
Yep another weekend spent troubleshooting my PC. It's been hanging a lot and I could not really pinpoint what caused it to happen. I reformatted my harddrive and reinstalled the OS, but then suddenly my game had no ambient music and then I realised something must be wrong with the soundcard.
Suspicions were confirmed when I got a BSOD (blue screen of death - for readers who are lesser geeks) that pointed to an IRQL error (a conflict in the interrupt request line). Switching to another PCI slot didn't help either, the thing hung midway through the "Rapture" test (nothing cheem here was just playing the mp3). So I had to remove the whole soundcard, a first generation Audigy and now I'm relying on the mainbaord's soundchip for my aural pleasures. And I'm not going to pay $453 for an Audigy 4!! I could've gotten a Sony PSP for that amount!!
It's either I reduce my geekiness and get a cheaper Audigy 2 or wait til Audigy 4 drops in price. Alternatively I think I can live with the current onboard C-media chip.
