My Dark Messiah (well not quite of Might and Magic)
Seems like forever since I last blogged. Well, that's because I've been having a spate of IT problems - my aged, overworked and abused PC semi-died. It's now limping, which is good because it allows me to back up my data and pick up the remnants but it doesn't ever shut down properly anymore. And now I have a new rig with a Core2Duo that runs like a dream. Most importantly, it runs games like a dream. And even more importantly, it ran Dark Messiah of Might and Magic fabulously - the real reason why I coughed up so much for a PC of this calibre now.
And then my cable modem kept disconnecting by itself - at first I thought it was Starhub since they mentioned some maintenance work but the situation did not improve a week after their work. Starhub's very patient tech support people told me that the problem (after like many MANY rounds of CSI-like troubleshooting over the weekend) was due to my cable modem's wear and tear. Turns out the old thing was also semi-dead like my PC. No wonder I can't even get online for one full hour. And that's partly the reason why I didn't want to try and blog and risk losing all my writing.
Ok, enough excuses I think. Oh work's a bitch as well to top it all off. I think I'm also semi-dead and I need new hardware to help me survive. Will I ever get to see the aurora borealis before I die old and alone and eaten by my cat posthumously? Oh wait I need to get a cat first.
Back to the PC - yes I did overspend. I overspent on the Core2Duo processor which is really too expensive now, I paid for a premium mobo that has all the bells and whistles, I got a good aluminum casing with 4 fans (coooool!) which is actually a lower range one of an excellent brand BUT all in all, it's a good price for a pretty good setup although I wish I can afford to buy more RAM.
It's not a flashy Beng machine, it doesn't have a watercooler inside nor antifreeze, it's kinda drab in an all-black case but it answered my prayers and I love it. It truly is my Dark Messiah.
