Who'd have thought I'd be so bowled over by a simple cold and a throat infection?
Unthinkable. The record I longed to set for going two years without having to go on medical leave in this company (okay, group of companies) has been shattered. After enduring an on-again-off-again cough and sniffles, it was a bad throat infection and a high fever that brought me flat on my back. I had to go home within two hours of starting my day in the office, untimely as my boss was flying out and I had to miss a meeting with my bigger boss.
Although my throat is now better, it's the side effects from the antibiotics that killing me. Yes, all the side effects listed - nausea, vomitting, diarrhea, loss of appetite all manifested upon me. It's hard to be working when you're trying to hold down / hold in your breakfast / lunch / dinner / nothing but gastric juices. And now I've got a case of gastritis from I dunno what. Perhaps the purging of food from both ends emptied my stomach so much that I got gastritis?
Apparently antibiotics disrupt intestinal flora thus leading to diarrhea. Bye bye me precious E. coli!
(hehee biologist joke) Well, that explains why I saw my lunch in the toilet bowl just before dinner. (Ok if you get grossed out I apologise but I also am suffering from verbal diarrhea so bear with me or walk away.)
I can taste nothing at all, which makes me feel even sicker. And my course of antibiotics will run for a few more days - isn't my doctor a little too overzealous? Five days' worth? And for the good of mankind, even if it burns a hole in my stomach, I will finish it all, otherwise the consequences to mankind will be even more catastrophic. Who says I'm selfish?
