Self Improvement
It's time to chart my course for self-improvement through courses. To look inwards with a harsh critical eye and say "I'm kinda screwed up and I need help!". I find this kind of exercise the easiest right after an appraisal. Not only do you get all your flaws readily pointed out, you go through the three phases of depression: denial, acceptance and healing. And charting personal growth is a healing process.
My immediate therapy is to go to the self-help area at a bookstore or the library - a look at my recent selection says a lot about how I feel about myself. "Getting things done", "Absolute Beginner's Guide to Project Management", "Smart things to know about Project Management", "The Effective Executive", "Creative Post-production", "Power-writing", "Error-free writing" ... oh and a treat for myself "State of Fear" by Michael Crichton - good choice since it's about the state of paranoia we live in today.
What I really need is something that can address really complex problems or just make me feel better: "How to sleep five hours and feel like you slept eight", "Procrastinate and you're dead", "I'm ok, you're ok? Like I give a **** - the true art of empathy", "Sit down and shut up - getting your views across effectively", "The conspiracy of the fashion industry - smaller sizes, larger labels", "Be happy with yourself - even if you're not", "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus, and lots of other bullshit from Uranus"...
OK I think I'm in an especially vicious mood today..."Stop bitching and get on with your work"!
