The LOTR Exhibition
Singapore Science Centre, until 4 June
Went for the above exhibition last Wednesday. Although the costumes and weapons are impressive up close, the exhibition is rather small and poorly-lit. The bad lighting is not only a bane for displaying the drawings and sketches (especially those dark pictures of dark Mordor), it also makes photography impossible (which is not allowed anyway, and they have security cameras, staff and a wandering Ringwraith to make sure that all shutterbugs are squashed). The best exhibit for me is Boromir lying on a boat when he was given a water burial...it is really extremely life-like! There was also a huge cast of the Cave Troll that we see in FOTR which is pretty impressive. There are also many TV sets which play videos of how certain scenes were made, some not seen in the special edition DVDs and also some ROTK stuff which is not out on DVD yet. You can't really touch most things there -- they are mostly kept in a case or behind some barrier, but there are a couple of sword "samples" you can feel but not wield.
Although the whole thing may be kinda pricey at $20, I thought it was worthwhile as it is probably a once-in-a-lifetime thing, so I have no complaints.
PS: The Ringwraith is a sneaky guy who hisses like Oreille Noire...he gave me a proper fright when he stood behind me breathing down my neck...*hisssss*
