His Dark Materials Beats Harry Potter; Lord of the Rings is Lord of the Books!
Check out BBC's poll for UK's best-loved books here! Top of the charts is JRR Tolkien's Lord of the Rings, followed by Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, but what is so commendable and remarkable is Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials at the THIRD place, right behind the old Lord and Lady of English Literature!! Fourth place goes to Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (ok I promise myself I will read it after...er...Legacy of the Drow!) and in fifth is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which I will pick up eventually...probably much later....
