Now reading T. H. White's "Once and Future King" on my daily MRT rides, and R.A. Salvatore's Dark Elf Trilogy at home. Dark Elf Trilogy is all about Drizzt Do'Urden's people and reason for being what he is. The drow society portrayed is evil yet familiar, as such evils have existed in the realms of reality in hearts of men for the longest time. I can scarcely stop reading it.
Once and Future King is both a charming, whimisical medieval fantasy tale as well as a study and philosophy of politics. Sure you can read it lightly, as you might with His Dark Materials, but the ideas underlying it may not be so digestable mentally and intellectually.
