It's not an April Fool's joke...
Another day of dread is coming my way. One of my dearest friends is leaving the country for her job. It's the second time she's going to settle in another country - it was tough enough when she left for 4 years to study in Aloha land, and now, we're looking at a minimum of 3 years. Thankfully she'll be just up north, a few hours drive away. And the good thing too is that we won't be wasting hundreds of dollars on long distance phone calls, like last time. Although these days we hardly have that much time to yak on the phone that much. So many other distractions in life have taken precedence - careers, boyfriends, new friends, hobbies - finally I feel that having too many distractions may not be such a great thing after all.
17 years we've been close friends. It's scary how quickly time has flown by. And despite all the (mostly) objective reasons I gave that should detract her from going, she has to pursue her destiny. What can a real pal do but give her my blessings, help her settle in and provide the encouragement and support she needs when things get rough?
